Parametric Condition for Multistationarity in Biochemical Reaction Networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
Chemical Reaction Network theory allows us to decide whether many classes of networks have the capacity for multiple positive equilibria, based on their structural properties. In this way, the deficiency zero theorem asserts that every weakly reversible network of zero deficiency has a unique equilibrium, for any choices of parameter values. We make use of CRNT, aiming not only to discriminate whether a (positive deficiency) network can exhibit multiple steady states, but also to characterize the whole space of the parameters regarding to their capability to produce multistationarity. In this work, we provide a condition, on the parameters of biochemical networks, for the appearance of multistationarity.

A stronger necessary condition for the multistationarity of chemical reaction networks.
Biochemical reaction networks grow bigger and bigger, fed by the high-throughput data provided by biologists and bred in open repositories of models allowing merging and evolution. Nevertheless, since the available data is still very far from permitting the identification of the increasing number of kinetic parameters of such models, the necessity of structural analyses for describing the dynam...
متن کاملCharacterizing Multistationarity Regimes in Biochemical Reaction Networks
Switch like responses appear as common strategies in the regulation of cellular systems. Here we present a method to characterize bistable regimes in biochemical reaction networks that can be of use to both direct and reverse engineering of biological switches. In the design of a synthetic biological switch, it is important to study the capability for bistability of the underlying biochemical n...
متن کاملCellular compartments cause multistability in biochemical reaction networks and allow cells to process more information
Many biological, physical, and social interactions have a particular dependence on where they take place. In living cells, protein movement between the nucleus and cytoplasm affects cellular response (i.e., proteins must be present in the nucleus to regulate their target genes). Here we use recent developments from dynamical systems and chemical reaction network theory to identify and character...
متن کاملWhich Small Reaction Networks Are Multistationary?
Reaction networks taken with mass-action kinetics arise in many settings, such as epidemiology, population biology, and systems of chemical reactions. Bistable reaction networks are posited to underlie biochemical switches, which motivates the following question: Which reaction networks have the capacity for multiple steady states? Mathematically, this asks, from among certain parametrized fami...
متن کاملMultistationarity in sequential distributed multisite phosphorylation networks.
Multisite phosphorylation networks are encountered in many intracellular processes like signal transduction, cell-cycle control, or nuclear signal integration. In this contribution, networks describing the phosphorylation and dephosphorylation of a protein at n sites in a sequential distributive mechanism are considered. Multistationarity (i.e., the existence of at least two positive steady sta...
